The Application of Chlormequat Chloride: Prevent Lodging

Chlormequat chloride is a widely used plant growth regulator, which can control vertical crop growth, promote reproductive growth, shorten internode and dwarf plants, enhance lodging resistance, drought resistance, cold resistance and salt alkali resistance, promote leaf thickening, chlorophyll increase and photosynthesis and improve the fruit setting rate, quality and yield of crops. The anti lodging application technology of chlormequat chloride is as follows:


(1) Wheat

Spraying 1000-2500 mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution on the leaves at the rising or jointing stage of winter wheat can make the wheat seedling strong, increase the number of total tillers, make the stem strong, and make the leaves short, wide and erect. The concentration of spraying should be determined according to the seedling situation.


If the water and fertilizer are sufficient, the wheat seedling is dense and the leaves are drooping, the concentration of 2500 mg / kg is suitable; if the wheat seedling above the middle level grows well, the concentration of 1000-2000 mg / kg is suitable. If the concentration is too high, there will be some bad phenomena, such as delayed heading and smaller head.


The seeds of winter wheat were soaked with 3000 mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution. The weight ratio of the solution to the seeds was 1:1 (i.e. 1 liter of solution to 1 kg of seeds). The seeds were soaked for 6 hours and dried for sowing. It can make the root system developed, leaves green, tillers increased, wheat seedlings strong, and the effect of late sowing wheat is more obvious, which is conducive to improving cold resistance. Using chlormequat chloride to mix seeds with 20 grams of chlormequat chloride per kilogram of seeds can also effectively prevent lodging.


(2) Corn

Spraying with the solution of 2000-4000 mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution on the leaves at jointing or heading stage of maize can make the stalk thick, reduce the position of stick forming, reduce the bald and empty stalks, and increase the rate of double spikes. It can also be used to soak corn seeds with 5000 mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution. The weight ratio of the solution and the seeds is 1:1. After soaking for 6 hours, it can be dried and seeded, which is also effective.


It’s also okay to spray the trumpet with 4000mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution at the jointing stage of corn, and then use 2000mg / kg solution at the booting stage for the second treatment, spray the top of plant, which can make the stalk obviously short and strong, the position of rod forming is low, and the bald point is few.


(3) Sorghum

In the jointing stage of sorghum, spray 4000mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution on the leaves, with the water consumption per mu being 50kg. In addition to making the plant short and thick, the sorghum will also be matured in advance, so as to prevent or reduce the frost damage. It can also spray 1600 mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution to the central leaves when the sorghum is pulling the flag, which can effectively prevent lodging and increase the yield.


(4) Sugarcane

Spraying 1000-2500 mg / kg chlormequat chloride solution on the leaves six weeks before harvest can prevent lodging, increase tillering and sugar content.
